Poppy Songs
Many moons ago, thanks to my friend Jim G, I had a rare opportunity to take a full-time position at a direct mail place. The work was a bit uninspired, but it was one of the best jobs I ever had. The people I was working with were amazing and fun and talented and smart and funny and fabulous. We engaged in many office shenanigans in my short stay there. A lot of those antics stemmed from an innocuous nickname that was given to me by my friend Poppie. She called me Little Poppy and she called our boss Big Papî. (Note the care taken in the spelling of the nicknames to avoid confusion--that was inspired by Tony! Toni! Toné!) At some point, we decided to make a Poppy Playlist which was simply a list of songs with a word replaced by "poppy" in each title. That was the whole idea but it went totally bananas at one point and we had people competing for the most Poppy songs on the list. Here's a page from my notebook with brainstorming that I did with Marianne M (the OG Poppie).
